10.08.2010 - Bolt ends season - lower back injury

10 August 2010 - Munich, Germany - After an assessment from his medical team we can confirm that Usain Bolt will close his 2010 track season and cancel his participation in the Samsung Diamond League meetings - Weltklasse Zurich and Memorial van Damme, Brussels, said a satement issued by the World and Olympic champion's management.

"Usain Bolt was examined yesterday (Monday, August 9) by Dr Hans Müller-Wohlfahrt in Munich who found a problem in his lower back. He has a tightness that restricts his ability to generate power in his stride and continuing to race in this condition could risk injury to his hamstrings or calf muscles. more

28.07.2010 - Bolt vs Powell and Gay in Stockholm - Samsung Diamond League

28 July 2010 - Stockholm, Sweden - World record holder Usain Bolt has joined the 100m field for the DN Galan - Samsung Diamond League meeting on 6 August, organisers have announced, where he'll face fellow Samsung Diamond League Ambassadors Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay for the first time this season.



The race will mark the first time that history's three fastest men will meet on the track since the 100m final at last year's World Championships in Berlin. Bolt set the World record in the German capital, clocking 9.58, with Gay second in 9. more

24.07.2010 - Ambassador Vili hopes to derail Ostapchuk’s Diamond Race hopes – Samsung Diamond League

23 July 2010 - Zürich, Switzerland - For the first time, part of the Weltklasse Zürich action will take place in downtown Zurich.

On 18 August, the world’s best shot putters will be lining up to compete at the impressive main hall of the city’s Main Station.

For the women, it will be the Samsung Diamond League final event.

As part of the new Samsung Diamond League, the Weltklasse Zürich will also feature disciplines that had not been staged at Letzigrund Stadium for some years.

13 July 2010 - Stockholm, Sweden – The DN Galan ‘Big Shot’ is bigger than ever. For the 3rd consecutive year Stockholm’s DN Galan – Samsung Diamond League (6 August 2010), will organise their Shot Put competitions, called the ‘Big Shot’, in the picturesque downtown city square of “Kungsträdgården”, one day before the main meeting takes place in the 1912 Olympic stadium.

Eugene, Oregon, USA - It’s not every day that reigning World record holders compete at a meet in the United States. This Saturday, fans attending the 36th annual Prefontaine Classic, the 6th stop of the Samsung Diamond League series, will be privileged to watch not one, but two world standard-bearers: Samsung Diamond League Ambassador Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic in the javelin, and Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland in the Hammer Throw.

22.06.2010 - Thorkildsen vs. Pitkämäki in Stockholm - Samsung Diamond League

22 June 2010 - Stockholm, Sweden – Andreas Thorkildsen, Norway’s reigning World and Olympic champion, and Tero Pitkämäki of Finland, the 2007 World champion, will continue their legendary rivalry when the Samsung Diamond League series hits the Swedish capital on 6 August with the DN Galan meeting in the city’s historic Olympic Stadium.

Since their first meeting at the 2001 European Junior Championships, the pair, who are both Samsung Diamond League Ambassadors, have squared off 53 times. At the moment, Thorkildsen holds a narrow edge, 27 to 26. Thorkildsen is no stranger to Stockholm, winning there for the first time in 2004 before collecting victories at each of the past four editions. more

12.06.2010 - IAAF confirms Samsung as title sponsor of the Diamond League

12 June 2010 - The IAAF is delighted to announce that a tender process for the title sponsorship package of the IAAF Diamond League has been concluded successfully.

Samsung, a leader in consumer electronics, has agreed to become the title sponsor of the IAAF Diamond League for the next 2 seasons starting in 2010, with an option to extend for an additional year.
 
This is excellent news for the IAAF Diamond League who will now count with a giant in the consumer electronics as its key partner. more

7 June 2010 - Rome, Italy - IAAF Diamond League Ambassador Asafa Powell (JAM) will participate in a live web chat from Rome with fans on the IAAF Diamond League website on Tuesday, 8 June, 19:30hrs Central European Time (GMT+2hrs).

Powell has been tearing-up the tracks so far this season: three meetings, all sub-10sec, including his 100m season leading 9.83sec (-0.5m/s) in Ostrava and last Friday night's slightly windy 9.72  (2.1) victory in the Oslo Diamond League. The former World record holder for the dash, a two-time World bronze medallist, has never started a season-off as well. more

2 June 2010 - Eugene, Oregon- With just 31 days to go until the Prefontaine Classic on 3 July, the meeting organisers have confirmed the appearance of IAAF Diamond League Ambassador Shelly Ann-Fraser in the women’s 100m.

16 May 2010 - Shanghai, China - After a sparkling opening in Doha last Friday (14 May) the second meeting of the new IAAF Diamond League takes place on Sunday 23 May in Shanghai.

21 May 2010 – Monaco – Herculis is proud to announce that last year’s women’s Javelin Throw winner Barbora Špotáková of the Czech Republic will be back at Louis II Stadium on Thursday 22 July for this year’s event which is part of the 14 meeting IAAF Diamond League.

Barbora Špotáková, who is one of the 14 athletes who are IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors, took the 2009 IAAF World Championships silver medal in Berlin last summer. Špotáková has already won almost everything in the world of athletics with her Olympic title from Beijing in 2008, her World title from Osaka in 2007, and she is currently the World record holder thanks to her 72. more

20 May 2010 - Reigning Olympic and World champion shot putter Valerie Vili is to compete at both of Britain’s IAAF Diamond League events this summer to maintain her position as number one in the world.

Vili, who is one of 14 IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors, will contest the Shot Put at the Aviva British Grand Prix held at Gateshead International Stadium on 10 July and the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on 13 and 14 August. more

13.05.2010 - IAAF Diamond League – Diamond Race: How it works

The IAAF Diamond League encompasses 32 individual event disciplines, with a points scoring ‘Diamond Race’ which runs throughout the 14 meeting series.

Each of the disciplines is staged seven times with the top three Athletes being awarded the same amount of points at each meeting with the exception of the Final where the points are doubled. The AVIVA London Grand Prix with 27 disciplines on two days counts as one meeting. more

12 May 2010 - New York, USA - Recently crowned World Indoor champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica and American sprinter Allyson Felix are among the 18 Olympic and World champions and four IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors added to the line-up of athletes slated to compete at the adidas Grand Prix on Saturday, 12 June.

The adidas Grand Prix, held at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, will be the fifth stop on the inaugural 14-meet, international IAAF Diamond League circuit. 7 May 2010 – London, UK – The reigning two-time World indoor and outdoor High Jump champion Blanka Vlasic, one of the 14 IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors is set to compete at the Aviva London Grand Prix on 13 and 14 August, where she will face elite opposition from around the globe in the newly formed IAAF Diamond League.

6 May 2010 - Paris, France - The Pole Vault has had some of its finest moments on French soil. 13 July 1985 was one of the most memorable, when World record holder Sergey Bubka made the most of the perfect conditions reigning at the Paris meeting, then hosted at the Jean-Bouin stadium, to become the first man to clear 6m.

On Friday 16 July 2010, the Pole Vault is set to have the place of honour once again, at the Stade de France, for the second edition of the Meeting AREVA – IAAF Diamond League. Indeed the men’s competition will see two of the best pole vaulters of the day vying for supremacy. more

5 May 2010 – Allyson Felix (USA), the three-time reigning World champion in the 200m and one of 14 IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors, participated in a media conference call this afternoon.

5 May 2010 - Reigning World champions, US teammates and fellow IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors Sanya Richards-Ross and Allyson Felix will go head-to-head in the 400m at Crystal Palace for the Aviva London Grand Prix on 13 and 14 August 2010.

The American pair have only competed against each other over the one-lap race on five occasions, the first of which came in London in 2007, when Richards-Ross took the win ahead of Felix, who ran a personal best. Both athletes are World champions over their respective specialist distances, Richards-Ross, the 400m and Felix the 200m. more

4 May 2010 - OMEGA, widely known for its role as Official Timekeeper at the Olympic Games, has signed an agreement with the Diamond League AG confirming that it will provide the same services to the new IAAF Diamond League circuit in its 2010 inaugural season.

The IAAF Diamond League is an annual series of one-day meets which intends, as one of its main goals, to enhance the worldwide appeal of athletics. The 14 meetings planned for 2010 replace the Golden League, whose six meetings were contested exclusively in Europe. more

The 35th edition of Athletissima, which is the seventh stop in the 14 meeting IAAF Diamond League series in 2010, will take place on a Thursday and not on a Tuesday, as in the past. 21 April 2010 - Oslo, Norway - The organisers of the ExxonMobil Bislett Games, the third leg of the 14 meeting IAAF Diamond League series, which takes place on Friday 4 June have announced this morning that seven IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors will participate.

The ExxonMobil Bislett Games in the famous Bislett stadium will be the first European meeting of the new international tour, following on from meetings in Doha (14 May) and Shanghai (23 May). Given that Norway boasts the reigning two-time Olympic Javelin Throw gold medallist Andreas Thorkildsen, it is not surprising that his duel with fellow Ambassador Tero Pitkämäki of Finland, the 2007 World champion, will very much be a highlight as usual. more

20 April 2010 - London, UK - Reigning women’s 100m World and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser will be lighting up the track when she competes at the Aviva British Grand Prix, Britain’s first IAAF Diamond League event, at Gateshead International Stadium on Saturday 10 July.

Fraser, who is the only Jamaican woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal for the 100m, last competed in Gateshead two years ago and is aiming for a winning performance when she returns to the North East later this year. Fraser, who last Friday was announced as an IAAF Diamond League Ambassador, said: “I’m really looking forward to returning to Gateshead for Britain’s first Diamond League Event. more

16 April 2010 – Rome, Italy - The participation of two of the IAAF Diamond League’s Ambassadors at this year’s Rome Golden Gala was announced this morning to the national media in Rome by FIDAL (the Italian Athletics Federation), who are the organisers of the fourth leg of the inaugural IAAF Diamond League, which will be held in the capital city of Italy on 10 June.

Kenenisa Bekele (ETH) and Blanka Vlasic (CRO), two of the brightest stars in Athletics’ sky, will take part in the 30th edition of the international Rome meeting. Bekele, the multiple World and Olympic champion and World record breaker at long distance running, and Vlasic, the two-time outdoor World champion in the women’s High Jump will be centre stage in the Olympic stadium along with two of most important national athletes whose participation was also confirmed today. more

29 March 2010 - Rumours have given way to certainty now and IAAF Diamond League Ambassador Usain Bolt will indeed be at the Stade de France, on 16 Friday July 2010, for the MEETING AREVA, which is part of the IAAF Diamond League.

Like last year, Bolt will take to the start of the 100m, a distance at which he is the World record holder (9.58sec), with World and Olympic titles also to his credit. 15 March 2010 – Monte-Carlo - The IAAF World Indoor Championships closed in spectacular fashion with a World record in Doha, Qatar yesterday (14), and in just under nine weeks time, to be precise on Friday 14 May the elite of the athletics world will again assemble in Doha to compete in the opening meeting of the IAAF Diamond League.

From the sport’s most important indoor championships, to the start of its top level outdoor one-day competition series, Doha is at the centre of the Athletics world in 2010. Croatia’s World outdoor and indoor women’s High Jump champion Blanka Vlasic, with yet another 2m clearance to retain her title in Doha, was one of two IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors to win gold at the weekend, and will start her IAAF Diamond League season in Doha. more

04.03.2010 - IAAF Diamond League Ambassadors to compete at 'Pre'

4 March 2010 - Eugene, Oregon - Four of the superstars of the sport of track & field Athletics, Kenenisa Bekele, Yelena Isinbayeva, Tyson Gay, and Sanya Richards, will compete in the 36th annual Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, 3 July 2010.

These Fabulous Four are Ambassadors of the inaugural IAAF Diamond League circuit that kicks off in Doha, Qatar on 14 May and arrives in Eugene the first weekend in July.

Bekele and Isinbayeva, in particular, have dominated their events during the first decade of the new millennium, and each was recently named Athlete of the Decade by Track & Field News magazine. more

2 February 2010 – New York, USA – Sprint sensation Usain Bolt will compete in the 100 metres at the adidas Grand Prix in New York City on 12 June, organisers announced today (2).

The adidas Grand Prix, formerly known as the Reebok Grand Prix, will be the fifth stop on the inaugural IAAF Diamond League circuit and will be held at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island.

Usain Bolt, the reigning triple-Olympic champion (100m, 200m and 4x100m) and triple-World champion, is one of the most popular and sought after sports personalities in the world. more

07.12.2009 - Event Disciplines per each Meeting - IAAF Diamond League 2010

A fortnight ago in Monaco the IAAF Diamond League was proud to announce the first group of star athletes that it had signed as Ambassadors.

Now the 14 meetings are pleased to confirm the distribution of event disciplines during the 2010 season. Commencing on 14 May in Doha, Qatar, the IAAF Diamond League consists of 32 event disciplines each of which will be showcased in their own IAAF Diamond Race. more

Monaco - The top stars of international athletics were on display this evening at the Fairmont Hotel, Monaco, to give their backing to the IAAF Diamond League, with the organisers of the new global track and field circuit honoured to announce those same athletes as its Ambassadors and as contracted participants for 2010.

16.06.2009 - IAAF Diamond League agrees a global calendar of 14 cities for 2010

Monte-Carlo – It has been agreed that the IAAF Diamond League will be composed of 14 cities across the globe in America, Asia, Middle East and Europe. Yesterday at a meeting of the General Assembly of IAAF Diamond League held in Berlin, Germany, the 2010 Calendar was confirmed.

As well as the 12 meetings which were confirmed in Monte-Carlo on 2 March when the new circuit of elite Athletics Meetings was originally announced, at the time there were 3 other cities, Berlin, Doha and Rome which had expressed an interest in becoming part of the IAAF Diamond League. more

03.03.2009 - IAAF Diamond League – All the events, all around the World

After officially announcing the creation of the IAAF Diamond League, representatives of the IAAF and the Directors of each of the meetings who have already contractually adhered to the League gathered in Monaco’s Fairmont Hotel on 2 March to outline how the circuit of the best one-day meetings in the world will commence and operate in 2010 and beyond.

02.03.2009 - Launch of global Diamond League of 1 Day Meetings

Monte-Carlo – In a major new initiative for the sport of athletics the creation of a new circuit of elite Athletics Meetings known as the “IAAF Diamond League” starting in 2010 has today been announced.

A replacement for the current ÅF Golden League of 6 meetings – the new IAAF Diamond League will meet one of the strategic goals of the IAAF, which is to enhance the worldwide appeal of athletics, by going outside Europe for the first time. At present, 12 meetings have signed contracts to join the Diamond League, with 3 others on standby, which means that there will be competitions in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the USA. more
