15 July 2010 - Tyson Gay, the second fastest man ever to set foot on the planet is coming to Monaco, the HQ of international athletics, next week to compete in the Herculis 2010 - Samsung Diamond League meeting which takes place on Thursday 22 July.
While he is in Monaco, Gay, who is a Samsung Diamond League Ambassador, has very kindly agreed to give up 30 minutes of his time next Tuesday 20 July to take part in the lastest of our webchats with the Ambassadors.
Two Samsung Diamond League meetings back after injury, Gay was beaten over 200m by Walter Dix in Eugene (3 July) and then in Gateshead (10 July) passed Asafa Powell in the last 20 metres of their 100m clash for victory.
Gay in his recent Diary for the IAAF reflected:
“I ran my first 200m on the track for 2010 at the PRE Classic (Samsung Diamond League) in Eugene. I would be lying if I said I was not a little nervous about running the same curve that ended my chance for an Olympic medal in 2008. But I got through it and opened my season in 19.76. I didn’t know what to expect fitness wise so the time was a good start for me but I still got beat by Walter Dix. He ran well. Respect to him."
“In my second race at Gateshead, I ran 100m. I felt more comfortable on the track and was real happy to come away with the victory. Asafa ran a strong race as he always does but I closed well - 9.94 to 9.96 into a headwind. As I always say, I think on any given day, I can beat anyone and on any given day, anyone can beat me."
In Monaco, Gay will meet Dix again over 200m, and with it the Samsung Diamond League meet can look forward to another intriguing sprint duel which sums up what great sporting head to head competition is all about.
