Wanda Diamond League champions Elaine Thompson-Herah and Karsten Warholm were named World Athletes of the year at a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, crowning a season in which both picked up multiple titles and clocked historic times on the Diamond League circuit.
Jamaica's Thompson-Herah enjoyed a spectacular second half of the summer in which she defended both her Olympic titles and picked up her first Diamond Trophy since 2017.
The highlight of her Wanda Diamond League campaign came in Eugene shortly after the Tokyo Olympics, where she clocked 10.54, the second-fastest time ever in the women's 100m.

Further wins in Paris and Zurich saw her complete a clean sweep of global titles, winning her third career Diamond Trophy.
Warholm began his season with a bang, breaking an almost three-decade old world record on home soil at his first competition of the season at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Oslo in July.
His 46.70 at the Bislett Stadium saw him finally take the crown from Kevin Young, whose previous record had stood for 29 years.
Warholm went one better at the Olympic final in Tokyo, shaving almost a whole second of his own world record with 45.94. Reigning Diamond League champions after his European record in Zurich in 2019, he went on to defend his title in Zurich, picking up his third win of the season to claim a second career Diamond Trophy.
