Bromell out for first win
Trayvon Bromell has tasted victory at Herculis before, having been part of the US relay team which won in Monaco in 2015. Yet the fastest man in the world this year is still waiting for his first point-scoring Diamond League win as he prepares to make his first appearance on the circuit this year on Friday. The 25-year-old is the world leader with 9.77 in Florida last month, yet he will face a tough international field in the 100m Monaco, with the likes of Canada's Andre De Grasse, South Africa's Akani Simbine and Stockholm Diamond League winner Ronnie Baker all on the start list.
Warholm on the warpath
After he smashed the world record on home soil with 46.70 at the Oslo Diamond League last week, Karsten Warholm immediately set his sights on even faster times, warning that he may need to break more records if he is going to sweep to Olympic and Diamond League titles in the 400m hurdles this year. The Norwegian will get a taste of the fierce competition when he faces two-time Diamond League champion Kyron McMaster in Monaco, yet the track and the conditions may leave him confident of making history again. Hassan returns
Another world record holder who will grace the track at Stade Louis II on Friday is Sifan Hassan, who clocked 4:12.33 in Monaco two years ago to become the fastest ever in the women's mile. She returns to the scene of her triumph this year with sights set once again on middle-distance magic in the 1500m. She has already been in fine form over the distance in the Wanda Diamond League this year, clocking a world lead and meeting record of 3:53.63 in Florence last month. Faith Kipyegon, who finished second despite setting a Kenyan record in that race, will be out for revenge on Friday.
All to vault for
The women's pole vault is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable of Diamond Disciplines this year, as a string of world class athletes repeatedly clash on the Wanda Diamond League stage. Four-time Diamond League champion Katerina Stefanidi is in need of points after a slow start to the season, while US rival Sandi Morris is also yet to pick up a win after two competitions so far. Instead, world champion Anzhelika Sidorova leads the qualification standings after her win in Florence, while American Katie Nageotte is hoping to build on her surprise win in Doha. All four are on the startlist on Friday.

Long jump heavyweights
World champion Tajay Gayle picked up his first win of the season in Stockholm, beating Cuba's Juan Miguel Echevarría and Sweden's Thobias Montler in the Final 3. The three will lock horns again in Monaco, though they may face a sterner test to make it to the Final 3 this time around, with US star Marquis Dendy and in-form European Champion Miltiadis Tentoglou also in the line-up.
