Laura Muir: The Year of the British Records
Rising British star Muir had what seemed to be the perfect curtain-raiser for her trip to the Olympics when she lined up at the Diamond League meeting in London.
The Scot exceeded all expectations in London, breaking the British record with a brilliant 3:56.41. Yet her dreams were dashed in Rio, as she failed to hit her best form and came in an underwhelming seventh place.
Muir, though, is nothing if not a fighter, and immediately got back on the horse to deliver an astonishing performance in Paris in the aftermath of Olympic disappointment.
With 3:55.42, she smashed her own British record from the previous month, beating Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon in the process.
The two victories in London and Paris set Muir on course for the Diamond Trophy, and she dutifully delivered, nabbing the title in Zurich later that season.
