After an explosive season opener in Xiamen, the biggest names in track and field stayed in China for the second meeting of the year in Shanghai/Keqiao a week later.
Rising US star Cordell Tinch grabbed the headlines with another stunning victory in the men’s 110m hurdles, proving his victory in Xiamen had been no fluke and staking his claim as the man to beat in 2025.
The American, who later went on to win the world and Diamond League titles, clocked a meeting record and personal best of 12.87 to beat the likes of Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell and Japan’s Rachid Muratake.
Fellow US hurdler Grace Stark also grabbed a meeting record with 12.42 in the women’s 100m hurdles, while Karsten Warholm followed up his 300m hurdles world best with a 400m hurdles world lead.
In the pole vault, Swedish superstar Mondo Duplantis narrowly missed out on another world record and had to settle for a meeting record of 6.11m.
There were also meeting records for Ethiopians Tsige Duguma and Berihu Aregawi in the women’s 800m and men’s 5000m.
