Jackson and Ogunleye among shot put stars in Eugene

Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye and two-time Diamond League champion Chase Jackson will clash in the women's shot put at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on July 5.

Two-time Diamond League champion Chase Jackson will take on all three Paris 2024 Olympic medallists in a clash of the world’s best female shot putters at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Eugene on July 5.

Jackson will go up against the likes of Yemisi Ogunleye, Maddison Lee-Wesche and Jiayuan Song, as well as compatriot and Oregon native Jaida Ross at the Prefontaine Classic.

A two-time world champion and 14-time Diamond League meeting winner, Jackson is looking to regain her series title in 2025, and has started strongly with a victory in Keqiao and a second-place finish in Xiamen.

She has good memories of Eugene, having won the second of her two Diamond Trophies at Hayward Field back in 2023.

German star Ogunleye is the reigning Olympic champion, having sensationally taken gold with her first ever 20-metre throw in the Paris final last August.

New Zealand’s Lee-Wesche and China’s Jiayuan Song won silver and bronze in Paris. Like Ogunleye, they will be hoping to claim their first ever Diamond League wins in Eugene.

The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.
