Fabbri to face shot put heavyweights in Rome

Italy's Leonardo Fabbri will be hoping for a home win at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Rome against the likes of Joe Kovacs and Tom Walsh.

Reigning Wanda Diamond League champion Leonardo Fabbri will take on a star-studded field when he competes at his home meeting in Rome on June 6.

Fabbri, who claimed his first Diamond Trophy with a stunning performance in last year’s final in Brussels, launches his title defence against the likes of Joe Kovacs, Tom Walsh and compatriot Zane Weir at the Pietro Mennea Golden Gala.

The Italian took his first ever Diamond League win in his home town of Florence at the Golden Gala back in 2023, and he will be hoping to claim a first Diamond League victory in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico this year.

Walsh and Kovacs are both three-time Diamond League champions and both have good memories of the Italian leg of the Diamond League, having won the Golden Gala in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.
