Tebogo and Bednarek to lock horns in Eugene

Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo and Diamond League champion Kenneth Bednarek will resume their rivalry in the men's 200m at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene this year.

The two fastest 200m runners in the world, Letsile Tebogo and Kenny Bednarek, will go head to head at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on July 5 in a reprise of their memorable battle in last year’s series final in Brussels.

Ranked numbers one and two in the world, Tebogo and Bednarek dominated the 200m in 2024.

Tebogo stormed to five victories in the Diamond League and snatched gold with a personal best of 19.46 at Paris 2024, becoming the first Botswanan track-and-field athlete ever to be crowned Olympic champion.

American star Bednarek took silver behind Tebogo in Paris, but got his revenge a few weeks later in the Wanda Diamond League Final.

After a string of victories between July and September, Tebogo went to Brussels as firm favourite to win the 200m title. Yet it was Bednarek who triumphed, clocking 19.67 to claim his second career Diamond Trophy.

The American will fancy his chances when the two men resume their rivalry in Eugene, meanwhile. Three of his top-ten fastest times have been run at Hayward Field.
