In a season with three world records, two world bests and some of the greatest head-to-heads in recent track and field history, it was always going to be difficult to pick a single highlight.
Yet when the votes were counted, the winner was clear. The WDL Moment of the Year 2025, as voted for by fans and experts, is Mondo Duplantis’ pole vault world record of 6.28m in Stockholm in June.
Over the last two weeks, Diamond League fans on social media and a panel of experts were asked to select their most memorable moment from this year’s campaign.
The shortlist included world records from Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet in Eugene, Neeraj Chopra’s first 90-metre javelin throw in Zurich and a stunning victory from Jamaican sprint star Oblique Seville in Lausanne.
None of them, however, matched up to Duplantis’ career-changing jump at the BAUHAUS-Galan in Stockholm.
Prior to June, Duplantis had broken the world record 11 times, but had never done so on home soil.
With conditions often tricky and the pressure of delivering in front of his home crowd, Stockholm had always proven a step too far – even for a serial world record breaker like Duplantis.
Yet in 2025, he finally achieved his lifetime goal, soaring over 6.28m at the first attempt to send the Swedish crowd into raptures.
Though he has since broken the record on two more occasions, it was a moment which will remain with Duplantis for the rest of his life.
