US sprint star Noah Lyles signed up for his first Diamond League race of the year last week, confirming his attendance in Rome on June 4.
For the Olympic champion, that means an earlier start to the campaign than last year, when he had to overcome early-season injury en route to a sixth Diamond League title.
In the latest episode of our 2025 Revisited series, we take a look back at last year’s Herculis EBS Monaco meeting, where Lyles made a much anticipated return to Diamond League action.
After weeks battling an ankle issue, Lyles had not raced in three months when he arrived in Monaco in July for his first Diamond League race of the season.
He was thrown in at the deep end, facing a world-class 200m field which included fellow Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo.
Yet Lyles was equal to the challenge, clocking 19.88 to beat Tebogo and emphatically announce his return to the global stage.
It was the start of a successful campaign which saw the American claim a record-equalling sixth Diamond Trophy and the world title in the 200m.
Monaco also saw a string of other superb performances on the track in 2025, including world leads from Kenyan 800m star Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Dutch 400m hurdles ace Femke Bol.
Australian teenage talent Gout Gout also made his first ever appearance at a Diamond League meeting in the U23 200m.
