Six of the world’s top ten male discus throwers will go head to head at the Wanda Diamond League season opener in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16.
Reigning Olympic champion Roje Stona will take on a world-class field which includes three former Diamond League champions in Matthew Denny, Kristjan Čeh and Daniel Ståhl.
Jamaica’s Stona won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but is still chasing his first ever Diamond League win.
Australia’s Denny held the Diamond League title for two successive seasons in 2023 and 2024 before he was beaten by world record holder Mykolas Alekna in last year’s final.
Swedish star Ståhl is also a two-time Diamond League champion and has also won three gold medals at the World Championships and one at the Olympics.
Slovenia’s Čeh won both the world and Diamond League titles in 2022 and has a total of 11 Diamond League wins to his name, most recently in Stockholm last season.
Other major names who will enter the ring in Keqiao include Samoa’s Alex Rose, Great Britain’s Lawrence Okoye, the USA’s Sam Mattis, Cuba’s Mario Alberto Díaz and Lithuania’s Martynas Alekna.
Shanghai/Keqiao is the opening leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which will cross four continents and 15 cities en route to the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
