Golden discus line-up in Eugene

Three of the world’s best discus throwers will go head to head at the ninth Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season in Eugene on July 5.

Reigning Diamond League and Olympic champion Valarie Allman will take on six-time Diamond League champion Sandra Elkasevic and reigning world champio Laulauga Tausaga at the Prefontaine Classic.

Olympic champion in 2021 and 2024, Allman has also held the Diamond Trophy for the last four seasons, picking up a total of 14 Diamond League wins.

Few athletes have been as successful as Elkasevic in the Diamond League. The Croatian, who also won back-to-back Olympic golds in 2012 and 2016, has six titles, making her the first successful woman in the series’ history.

Tausaga is the reigning world champion since her victory in Budapest in 2023, when she became the first American woman ever to win World Championship gold in the discus.

The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.
