World best for Warholm in Xiamen
Norwegian star Karsten Warholm ran the fastest time ever in the men’s 300m hurdles at the Wanda Diamond League season opener in Xiamen on Saturday, beating his own previous world best by 0.21 seconds.
Warholm clocked 33.05 to win the 300m hurdles at the Egret Stadium, beating his previous mark of 33.26, posted at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo in 2021.
The time is considered a world best performance as the 300m hurdles is not a world record event.
Earlier in the night, Kenyan distance star Faith Kipyegon narrowly missed out on the 1000m world record.
Kipyegon, who has broken four world records in the past two Diamond League seasons, clocked 2:29.21, falling just 0.23 seconds short of becoming the fastest woman ever over a kilometre.
It was still an explosive start to the season for the Kenyan, and one of seven meeting records and five world leads set in Xiamen.
