Brussels: Dafne Schippers gets 100m rerun – Semenya Lines Up in 400m

More gold medal winners have signed up for the Roi Baudouin Stadium. New sprint sensation Elaine Thompson and Caster Semenya have announced that she will line up in Brussels

Jamaican Elaine Thompson won gold at both the 100m and the 200m at the Rio Olympics and was crowned the new sprint queen. The 40th AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme is pleased to present a rerun of the Olympic 100m final with thompson and Dafne Schippers. Thompson already ran impressive at the 2015 AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme. She then finished in third in the 200m behind … Schippers and Allyson Felix.

Caterine Ibarguen is also confirmed on the Entry List. She is the double World and Olympic Champion in the Triple Jump. The athlete from Columbia is massively popular in her home country. She will be followed in Belgium by a dedicated and fully equipped TV-crew.

Caster Semenya from South Africa was a dominant winner in the Women’s 800m in Rio. She now aims to show her outstanding form in the 400m at the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme. It is Semenya’s first Diamond League appearance over 400m.

Semenya blew the field away in the Olympic 800m final. The 25-year old South African had an advance of more than one second on her rivals. At the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme on Sep. 9th in the Roi Baudouin Stadium she opts for the 400m. Semenya has a personal best of 50”74 on the distance which would also allow her to qualify for the Olympic 400m final. Semenya is the reigning African Champion on the t400m, 800m, 1500m and 4 x 400m ! The spectators have something to look out for when Semenya makes her Diamond League debut in the 400m !
