Denny takes on Ståhl and Stona in Stockholm
Wanda Diamond League champion Matthew Denny will take on discus rival Daniel Ståhl at the latter's home meeting in Stockholm next month.
Wanda Diamond League champion Matthew Denny will take on a star-studded men’s discus line-up at the BAUHAUS-Galan meeting in Stockholm on June 15.
Denny, who has won the Diamond Trophy in both of the last two seasons, will be hoping for his first ever win in Stockholm when he returns to the city for the fourth time next month.
The Australian is in blistering form, having thrown two of the furthest five throws in history in Ramona, Oklahoma in April.
“It is always special to compete in Stockholm. I am in the form of my life, and I really want to give the crowd something to remember. The stadium has so much history, and I have had some fantastic moments there in recent years,” he said.
Denny will go up against Jamaica’s Olympic champion Roje Stona, former Diamond League champion Kristjan Čeh and home favourite Daniel Ståhl.
Stona is after his first ever Diamond League win after he sensationally won gold at Paris 2024 last year.
Two-time Diamond League champion Ståhl will no doubt have the backing of the home crowd as he targets a fourth career victory at the BAUHAUS-Galan.
“I am really looking forward to competing in my hometown again. The atmosphere at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium is always electric, and it’s my absolute favorite place to compete,” said the Swede.
The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.
