Doha to stage women’s 3000m

In a minor alteration to the programme, the Doha Diamond League will now play host to a women's 3000m race, rather than the 1500m initially planned.

On 25th September, the Wanda Diamond League will touch down in Doha for the fourth competitive meeting of the truncated 2020 season.

The meeting will see some of athletics’ biggest superstars compete over 12 different disciplines, including a women’s 3000m race only recently introduced to the programme.

Responding to the concerns and wishes of a number of athletes, meeting organisers have decided to replace the women’s 1500m – originally scheduled for the middle of the programme – with the women’s 3000m.

The move will give long distance specialists another chance to compete in a season in which such opportunities have been few and far between.

It ensures that this year’s Wanda Diamond League circuit will provide a second, high-level long-distance race for female athletes, following the successful 5000m in Monaco earlier this month. Middle distance athletes, meanwhile, will have been able to compete in both Stockholm (1500m) and Rome (800m).

The full calendar for 2020 can be viewed here. Due to the ongoing global health situation and ever-changing COVID-19 regulations, the 2020 Wanda Diamond League calendar remains provisional and subject to further changes.
