Duplantis hits the streets of Lausanne

Mondo Duplantis will take on the best of the rest in the men’s pole vault when he resumes his Wanda Diamond League campaign in Lausanne at the first meeting back after the Olympic Games on August 21st. 

The reigning Wanda Diamond League champion has already broken the world record once this year with his 6.24m jump at the season opener in Xiamen, and came close to doing so again when he attempted 6.25m in front of his home crowd in Stockholm last weekend. 

Duplantis will be hoping to attack the record again – if he hasn’t already broken it at Paris 2024 – when he returns to Lausanne for a meeting of which he has fond memories. 

His 6.07m at Athletissima in 2020 was a European record at the time, and he also jumped 6.10m at the meeting in 2022. 

At this year’s meeting, he will go up against a familiar array of rivals, including Olympic silver medallist Chris Nilsen, world silver medallist Ernest John Obiena and Diamond League record champion Renaud Lavillenie. 

The pole vault will take place as a city event on the Place de la Navigation on the shores of Lake Geneva on August 21st, a day before the main event at the Stade de la Pontaise on August 22nd. 

The Wanda Diamond League is the premier one-day meeting series in athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 13th-14th September.
