The nominees for World Athletics’ Field Athlete of the Year award have been announced, with four of this season’s Wanda Diamond League champions in the running.
Sweden’s pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis and New Zealand’s high jump Olympic champion Hamish Kerr are in line for the men’s award, while US discus star Valarie Allman and Australian high jump world champion Nicola Olyslagers have been nominated for the women’s prize.
Duplantis enjoyed yet another spectacular Diamond League season in 2025, winning every single one of his competitions en route to a fifth successive series title.
The Swedish star’s most impressive performance came on in June in front of an adoring crowd in Stockholm, where he jumped 6.28m to finally achieve his long-held dream of breaking a world record on home soil.
He now has 41 Diamond League wins to his name, making him one of the most successful athletes in the history of athletics’ premier one-day series.
Allman also extended her title-winning streak to five this season, winning six out six competitions as she rampaged to yet another Diamond Trophy.
She is now just one Diamond League title short of the women’s record of six, held among others by her long-term Croatian rival Sandra Elkasevic.
Allman broke the 70-metre mark twice in the Diamond League this season and set new meeting records in Rome and Eugene.
Kerr claimed his first ever Diamond Trophy in the men’s high jump with an impressive 2.32m at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich.
The New Zealand star had previously won six Diamond League competitions in one of the most fiercely contested disciplines, but never claimed the major prize.
He was joined by Australian counterpart Olyslagers on this year’s champions podium, after she too won her first ever series title in the women’s event.
The 29-year-old jumped an Oceania record of 2.04m on the first day of the Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich, ending the three-year title streak of her Ukrainian rival Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
The vote to determine the Track Athlete of the Year finalists is now open on World Athletics social media platforms. It will close on 26 October. The winners of the World Athletics Awards will be announced on November 30.
