Fraser-Pryce to open 2025 campaign in Doha

Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will open her 2025 Wanda Diamond League campaign while Diamond Trophy holder Matthew Denny launches his discus title defence in Doha on May 16.

Five-time Diamond League champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will launch her 2025 campaign in the women’s 100m in Doha on May 16.

The Jamaican legend, a three-time Olympic champion who has won more global sprint titles than any other athlete in history, will be after a third career win at the Doha Diamond League meeting, having won at the Qatar Sports Club in 2021 and 2014.

“Doha holds a special place in my heart, and I’m truly excited to return for this year’s Diamond League,” said the so-called “Pocket Rocket” who clocked 10.94s (+3.1m/s) in her 2025 season-opener in Kingston on April 19.

“From the start of my career I’ve understood the power of the platform that track and field provides. I’ve been blessed to compete at the highest level for many years, and with that comes a responsibility to lead, inspire, and uplift the next generation, especially young girls who dream of becoming athletes, mothers, and business leaders. That legacy continues to drive me.

“My focus remains sharp, and I approach this season with the same levels of discipline, passion, and determination that have defined my career. Every race is an opportunity, and I’m committed to making each one count.”

Fraser-Pryce will be joined in Doha by a star-studded men’s discus line-up which includes Matthew Denny, Kristjan Čeh and Daniel Ståhl.

Australia’s Denny is the reigning Diamond League champion, having won the title in both the previous two seasons.

Čeh won the Diamond Trophy in 2022, unseating Ståhl, who had previously held the title for two years.

The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.
