Gout Gout to compete in U23 race in Monaco
Teenage sprint star Gout Gout will make his first appearance at a Wanda Diamond League meeting when he lines up in an U23 200m pre-programme race in Monaco on July 11.
Though just 17 years old, Australian prodigy Gout has already achieved world fame with a series of breathtaking records over recent months.
In December 2024, he clocked 20.04 in the 200m at the Australian All-Schools Championships, setting a new Oceanian record and breaking a world age-16 best which was previously held by Usain Bolt.
In April, he surpassed Bolt yet again, clocking 19.84 to be crowned Australian champion and become the second-fastest under-20 athlete in history.
Now, the young Australian star has the chance to gain valuable experience on the biggest stage when he lines up at Herculis EBS Monaco.
The U23 race will take place at the beginning of the pre-programme in Monaco at 19:47 local time (GMT/UTC+2), and will not be part of the main broadcast.
The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.
