If Farah’s greatest moments were undoubtedly on the Olympic stage, the British legend also enjoyed some superb successes in the Diamond League over the years.
The first came in Eugene in 2011, as Farah smashed Mohammad Mourhit’s 11-year-old European record in the 10,000m to announce himself as a long distance superstar. Later that summer, he would break the British record over 5000m in Monaco.
Come 2013, Farah had already shot to worldwide fame after his heroics at London 2012, and at the Monaco Diamond League, he set another European record, this time in the 1500m. Three years later, he broke the 3000m British record by just two tenths of a second in Birmingham, setting up what would be another glorious Olympic summer.
The Diamond Trophy, though, eluded Farah until the very end. In the final track race of his career, Farah won an extraordinary 5000m Diamond League Final in Zurich, to claim his first ever Diamond Trophy and end a sparkling story on the Diamond League circuit.
