European 1500m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen faces the final hurdle on his road to the Wanda Diamond League Final when he takes on reigning champion and four-time Diamond Trophy winner Timothy Cheruiyot in Lausanne this week.
Ingebrigtsen, who missed out on the gold medal at the World Championships in Eugene but claimed his second successive European Championships title this summer, is hoping to add a first Diamond Trophy to his long list of major titles.
Following victories in Eugene and Oslo, he is well on course to secure a spot in this year's final, which will take place in Zurich on 7-8th September.
The Norwegian prodigy is currently third in the qualification standings, behind Abel Kipsang and Oliver Hoare, both of whom have already qualified for the final.
Kipsang will also race at the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne, as will Cheruiyot, who swept to a fourth successive Diamond League title last year.
The Kenyan legend is currently fifth in the standings, and can also secure qualification with a strong performance at the Stade de la Pontaise.
Heavyweights Laura Muir and Sifan Hassan go head to head in the women's 1500m, with both women still needing points to secure their place in the final.
Muir enters the race as reigning European champion in the 1500m after her victory in Munich earlier this month, while Hassan is eyeing her fourth career Diamond Trophy this season.
