WDL Classics Brussels 2010: Season Finale

David Rudisha, Sandra Perkovic and Tyson Gay won their first ever Diamond League titles in Brussels in 2010.

Live from the archive every single Sunday on the Wanda Diamond League YouTube channel, the WDL Classics series revisits historical Diamond League meetings with a re-live stream of the full two-hour TV broadcast. This week: the second leg of the first ever Diamond League Final.

After the first 16 series champions were crowned in Zurich on August 19, 2010, the first ever Diamond League season came to an end in Brussels eight days later.

Just as in Zurich, the second half of the inaugural Diamond League final proved to be a thrilling affair, with victories for some of the biggest athletes of the age.

Allyson Felix crowned a title double, following up her 400m victory in Zurich with a 200m win in Brussels.

Tyson Gay triumphed in the men’s 100m, deciding a season long battle with Jamaican rivals Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt.

Kenyan distance legend David Rudisha claimed his fifth win of the season, becoming the first men’s 800m Diamond League champion.

Sandra Perkovic (now Elkasevic) launched a then Croatian record of 66.93m in the women’s discus, winning the first of six Diamond League titles.

The first of many magical Diamond League nights in Brussels, it was an evening which brought down the curtain on the series’ first ever season, marking a new era in global track and field.
