Paulino, Naser and Gebrhiwet among stars in Lausanne

Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino will join the likes of Salwa Eid Naser and Hagos Gebrhiwet at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on August 20.

Olympic 400m champion Marileidy Paulino and Ethiopian distance star Hagos Gebrhiwet are among the latest global stars to join a world-class line-up at Athletissima Lausanne on August 20.

Paulino and Gebrhiwet join the likes of Noah Lyles, Kishane Thompson and Shericka Jackson at the Stade de la Pontaise as the Wanda Diamond League heads into the final straight this month.

Paulino is the reigning Olympic, world and Diamond League champion over 400m and is aiming for a fourth successive Diamond League title in 2025.

The Dominican Republic star has dominated her discipline like few others in recent years, notching up 18 wins and only two defeats in athletics’ premier one-day series since 2021.

She will race the 200m in Lausanne, having already picked up wins over one lap in Paris and Monaco.

With Paulino switching disciplines, her Bahraini rival Salwa Eid Naser will be favourite in the women’s 400m.

Naser is the third-fastest woman in history and a two-time Diamond League champion, having won the title in 2018 and 2019.

The Bahrain athlete began her Diamond League season in style in Doha, equalling the meeting record with 49.83.

Yet she faces a stern test with the likes of Dutch star Lieke Klaver and US ace Isabella Whittaker also on the entry list.

Ethiopia’s Gebrhiwet leads the line in the men’s 5000m, with the 2016 Olympic champion looking to regain the Diamond League title nine years after he last won it this season.

In Lausanne, he goes up against the likes of Switzerland’s Dominic Lobalu and American double Olympic bronze medallist Grant Fisher.
