Stockholm 2026: Five things to look out for

Mondo Duplantis eyes another home world record and Cooper Lutkenhaus makes his Diamond League debut at the BAUHAUS-Galan in Stockholm this Sunday.

The Diamond League action continues in Stockholm this Sunday as the likes of Mondo Duplantis, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Keely Hodgkinson head to BAUHAUS-Galan.

Here are five things to look out for in the Swedish capital.

Duplantis eyes world record repeat

Stockholm is always special for Mondo Duplantis, but last year’s edition of BAUHAUS-Galan was particularly sweet for the Swedish pole vault superstar. In 2025, Duplantis sailed over 6.28m to break the world record in front of his home crowd for the first time in his career. A year on, the record now stands at 6.31m and Duplantis is once again hoping for a special night in Stockholm. ”Stockholm Olympic Stadium is my favorite stadium in the world. Breaking the world record there last year was a dream come true. Now, it’s time to do it again,” he said.

Hodgkinson vs Werro

After her brief foray into the 400m in Rome on Thursday, Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson returns to familiar territory in the women’s 800m on Sunday. She too is now a world-record candidate, having obliterated the indoor world record in Lievin earlier this year. Yet she faces a tough first test in Stockholm against reigning Diamond League champion Audrey Werro, who clocked a meeting record of 1:56.56 in Rabat last weekend. While Werro is aiming to defend the Diamond Trophy in 2026, Hodgkinson is hoping to claim a third series title after triumphs in 2021 and 2023.

Jefferson-Wooden on the rebound

After a dominant season in 2025, triple world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden started her 2026 Diamond League campaign with a surprise setback, tasting deefat for the first time since 2024 against an imperious Julien Alfred in the 200m in Rome. Three days later, Jefferson-Wooden will be hoping to bounce back when she lines up in the 100m against British top-ten rivals Dina Asher-Smith and Amy Hunt.

Debut for Lutkenhaus

Just over two months ago, Cooper Lutkenhaus became the youngest world champion in athletics’ history when he won 800m gold at the World Indoors in Poland. Now, the American teenager is preparing for another career milestone as he makes his Diamond League debut in Stockholm. It will be something of a baptism of fire, as the 17-year-old goes up against fellow American Bryce Hoppel, Canada’s Marco Arop, Algeria’s Slimane Moula and Britain’s Jake Wightman.

Schilder back in action

Dutch shot putter Jessica Schilder kicked off the Diamond League season in style last month when she threw a staggering 21.09m at the season opener in Shanghai/Keqiao. That was the first 21-metre throw in almost 15 years and a new Diamond League record, and it saw Schilder surge to the top of the world rankings. The reigning world and Diamond League champion returns to action in Stockholm, going up against Olympic champion Yemisi Mabry, two-time Diamond League champion Chase Jackson and 2024 series title winner Sarah Mitton.
