1. Lowe and Beitia in pursuit
Spanish veteran Ruth Beitia won her first ever Diamond Trophy in the women’s high jump last year, and her victory in Oslo has put her back in the race to defend her title this year. Beitia is now just five points behind leader Levern Spencer, and one point ahead of third placed Chaunté Lowe. All three women will be in Stockholm, and Spencer knows she will need a high finish if she is to hold off Beitia and Lowe in the Diamond Race.
2. Can anyone catch Edris?
Hagos Gebrhiwet’s victory in Oslo may have been Muktar Edris’ first defeat in this Diamond League season, but it allowed the men’s 5000m leader to extend his advantage in the Diamond Race. Edris now has a 15 point lead, and with Gebrhiwet and Thomas Longosiwa both absent in Stockholm, it is up to the rest of the chasing pack to try to prevent him running away with an unassailable lead.
3. Can Jebet jump back to the top?
It has been neck-and-neck between Ruth Jebet and Hyvin Kiyeng at the top of the women’s 3000m steeplechase Diamond Race so far. The two women were tied at the top before Oslo, where Kiyeng won in Jebet’s absence to pull 10 points clear. Jebet now has the chance to do the same in reverse and catch up with Kiyeng at the top of the standings once again.
4. Copello and Taylor to duel
Triple jumper Christian Taylor knows how to win the Diamond Race better than most. He has won four times, including an incredible season long comeback to beat Pedro Pablo Pichardo last year. This season, his dominance is under threat from Cuban Alexis Copello, who is just three points behind the American World Champion. The two go head to head in Stockholm in a battle for the lead in the Diamond Race.
5. Rudisha and Aman to return?
David Rudisha and Mohammad Aman both have two Diamond Trophies to their name, but both have been overshadowed in the 2016 Diamond Race so far by the likes of Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich and Pierre-Ambroise Bosse. With the second half of the season kicking off, both Rudisha and Aman need to start getting points on the board in the men’s 800m if they are to catch the leading group.
