Top stories

The Swedish crowd had plenty to cheer about, as both Daniel Ståhl and Thobias Montler claimed victories in the discus and long jump.

Ståhl built on an impressive performance in Doha to cement his lead at the top of the standings as he looks to claim a first Diamond Trophy this season, while Montler took a surprise home victory against a truly star-studded field. The Swede smashed his PB with 8.22m to beat the likes of Luvo Manyonga and Juan Miguel Echevarria.

Montler mastered the conditions better than any of his rivals, and the cold and wind were no problem for Kendra Harrison either. The American beat the bad weather to take an impressive win the 100m hurdles in 12.52, in a performance reminiscent of her appearance in Stockholm back in 2016.

Fellow hurdler Karsten Warholm showed that famous Norwegian sense of humour ahead of the race as he voiced concerns that he may "die", but in the end he cruised to a comfortable victory without appearing to break so much as a sweat.

Equally dominant was Dina Asher-Smith in the women’s 200m. Soaring ahead of a field which contained Dafne Schippers and Elaine Thompson, the British star once again asserted herself as a strong favourite to take the Diamond Trophy this season.

In the men’s 400m, meanwhile, talk of the town Mike Norman was unable to attack any records as some had hoped, but nonetheless put in a fantastic performance considering the conditions, chasing down Rai Benjamin to win in 44.53.

Diamond Trophy holder Hellen Obiri took a tumble in the women’s 5000m, allowing Agnes Tirop to take victory, while Timothy Cheruiyot hit back after defeat in Doha to pick up his first win on the Road to the Final in the 1500m.
