It has been a thrilling season from start to finish in the pole vault, as established champions have locked horns with rising stars to create some of the most open competition that the Diamond League has seen in several years.
Katerina Stefanidi’s title defence got off to a difficult start as Sandi Morris took victory in Doha, but the Greek vaulter found her form when it counted, picking up points later in the season before winning the Final.
We also saw Jenn Suhr pull off a marvellous display in front of an adoring home crowd in Eugene, setting a new meeting record of 4.85m.
In the men’s event, Diamond Trophy holder Sam Kendricks appeared to be favourite after a series of victories, but the likes of Armand Duplantis and Timur Morgunov had other ideas. Duplantis notched up a fine maiden Diamond League win in front of home fans in Stockholm, while Morgunov shone when it mattered most, winning the warm-up in Zürich main station before also taking victory in the Final proper in Brussels.
