Karsten Warholm and Yaroslava Mahuchikh are set to bring some world-record flair to the Silesia leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League on August 23.
World record holders in the men’s 400m hurdles and women’s high jump, Warholm and Mahuchikh are both aiming for a fourth career Diamond League title in 2026.
Warholm first broke the 400m hurdles world record at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo in 2021 and has since shortened it to 45.94.
He is the current Diamond League champion in the one-lap hurdles, but has faced stiff competition this year from Brazilian rival Alison Dos Santos.
“I have probably been to most of the world’s major stadiums and events, but the Silesia Stadium has a special energy,” said Warholm. “You feel like giving 100 percent. For the people. There are not many athletics arenas louder than this, not many better crowds.”
Mahuchikh jumped 2.10m at the Diamond League meeting in Paris in 2024, toppling Stefka Kostadinova’s 37-year-old mark of 2.09m.
The Ukrainan star won the Diamond Trophy for three years in a row between 2022 and 2024 before defeat in last year’s final to Australian rival Nicola Olyslagers.
Silesia is the 13th leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which began in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
