Over the last few weeks, we asked a panel of experts and the public to vote for their Wanda Diamond League Photo of the Year 2024.
From Mondo Duplantis’ disbelief at a tenth pole vault world record in Silesia to Keely Hodgkinson’s fiery home victory in the 800m in London, the longlist and shortlist covered the full spectrum of emotion and excitement delivered on the Diamond League circuit in 2024.
Yet there can only be one winner.
This year, it was Håvard André L. Kilvær who triumphed in the public vote with his shot of Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s desperate dive for the line in the men’s 1500m in Oslo in June.
After a surprise defeat for Karsten Warholm earlier that day, Ingebrigtsen was under even more pressure to deliver for the home crowd, and he quite literally threw his entire being into the final few strides, just pipping old rival Timothy Cheruiyot to the line to delight the home crowd.
It was a vintage piece of middle-distance drama, and a reminder that for all his poker-faced cool, Ingebrigtsen is also a ferocious fighter.
