Wanda Diamond League Final

Women’s pole vault moved to Wednesday

The women's pole vault competition will take place a day earlier than scheduled at the Wanda Diamond League Final due to heavy rain.

Due to the heavy rain forecast in Zurich for Thursday, 28 August the organisers of the Wanda Diamond League Final at Weltklasse Zürich have taken the decision to stage the women’s pole vault a day earlier.

The pole vault was intended to be part of the main evening of action at this year’s Diamond League Final, taking place at the Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday alongside 26 other disciplines.

To ensure the athletes’ safety and a smooth competition, it will now be held on Wednesday as part of the street event at the Sechseläutenplatz in front of Zurich’s opera house.

The women’s pole vault will be held alongside the five disciplines already planned for Wednesday’s event, which include the men’s pole vault and long jump, the women’s high jump and the men’s and women’s shot put.

“The safety of the athletes and the successful staging of the competition are our top priorities. Given the weather forecast, this decision was unavoidable. The athletes are now also looking forward to the special atmosphere at Sechseläutenplatz,” says Andreas Hediger, Co-Meeting Director of Weltklasse Zürich.

Tickets purchased for Wednesday evening’s competitions will also be valid for the women’s pole vault in the early afternoon. The grandstands will open at 2:00 p.m.

This year’s women’s pole vault final will feature six of the biggest names in the sport: 2021 Olympic champion Katie Moon, her fellow US stars Emily Grove and Sandi Morris, Italy’s Roberta Bruni, Slovenia’s Tina Sutej and Swiss athletes Lea Bachmann and Angelica Moser.
