World long jump champion Mattia Furlani will be out to claim a first Diamond League win in front of his home crowd when he returns to the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea on June 4.
Furlani is the second big name to confirm his attendance at the Rome leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season, joining fellow Italian and 5000m European champion Nadia Battocletti on the entry lists.
The 21-year-old has already established himself as one of the finest long jumpers of his generation, winning bronze at the Olympic Games in 2024 and following up with indoor and outdoor world titles last season.
Furlani finished second at the Rome Diamond League meeting last season and he will be hoping to go one better when he returns to the Stadio Olimpico this year.
“I’m really delighted, I can’t wait to jump again at the Olimpico,” said Furlani. “Last year was an unforgettable experience. I hope the crowd will be just as warm as the first time, and it will certainly be another important competition, also in preparation for the European Championships in Birmingham.”
Rome is the fifth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which begins in Doha on May 8 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
