World record holder Alekna heads to Brussels

Discus world record holder Mykolas Alekna will continue his bid for a first Wanda Diamond League title at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels next week.

Fresh from his Diamond League record in London last month, discus world record holder Mykolas Alekna will head to Brussels on August 22 hoping to wrap up qualification for the series final.

Lithuania’s Alekna is the man to beat in the men’s discus, having broken the world record three times in the last two seasons.

He has also notched up five Diamond League wins in that time and looks in ominous form ahead of the Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich on August 27-28.

The 23-year-old has one both his appearances at Diamond League meetings in 2025, claiming a comfortable victory in Eugene and breaking the series record with a huge 71.70m in London.
