Wanyonyi and Chebet continue title defences in Rabat
Kenyan distance stars Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Beatrice Chebet will both continue their Wanda Diamond League title defences in Rabat on May
Reigning Wanda Diamond League champions Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Beatrice Chebet will both continue their title defences when the series touches down in Rabat on May 25.
The two Kenyan stars will both be in action at the African leg of this year’s Road to the Final, with Wanyonyi headlining the men’s 800m and Chebet taking on the women’s 3000m.
After claiming his first Olympic gold medal in 2024, Wanyonyi is hoping to extend his dominance in one of the most fiercely competitive disciplines in athletics as he aims for a third straight 800m Diamond League title in 2025.
His compatriot Chebet has been equally successful in the long distance disciplines in recent years, winning the 5000m Diamond Trophy in two of the last three seasons.
She enjoyed a particularly breathtaking year in 2024, taking Olympic gold in the 5000m and 10,000m and breaking the world record over ten kilometres at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Eugene.
The Kenyan got her title defence off to a winning start at the Diamond League season opener last month, clocking a world lead of 14:27.12 in Xiamen.
The Wanda Diamond League is the elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. It comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27 and 28 August 2025.
