Chase Jackson knows what it takes to win the Diamond League title.
The US shot put star won the Diamond Trophy in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023, and she is out to regain her crown this year.
By the time she arrived in Brussels last week, Jackson had long since wrapped up qualification for the Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich on August 27-28.
At the Allianz Memorial Van Damme, she showed exactly why she is among the favourites to claim the series title next week.
The two-time world champion made a modest start to the competition in Brussels, fouling her first throw and marking just 17.81m in the second round.
Yet she took the competition by the scruff of the neck after that, launching a huge third effort which the Wanda Diamond League’s Official Timekeeper OMEGA marked at 20.90m.
It was enough to claim a meeting record which had previously been held for 13 years by New Zealand shot put legend Valerie Adams.
And it also saw off a competitive field, giving Jackson her third Diamond League win of the season and putting her in pole position ahead of next week’s final.
“The crowd was amazing and they really cheered for each and everyone of us so that felt amazing,” said the American. “In Zurich, I hope that I can win the final and maybe throw over 21 metres: we´ll see!”
