Olympic champion Julien Alfred and world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden will resume their rivalry in the women’s 100m at the Zurich leg of the Wanda Diamond League on August 27.
St. Lucia’s Alfred and the USA’s Jefferson-Wooden have been the two fastest female sprinters in the world in recent years, sweeping up almost every major global title since 2024.
Alfred won gold over 100m at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and silver at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and has won the Diamond League title in each of the last two seasons.
Jefferson-Wooden won bronze behind Alfred in Paris before storming to a historic triple gold medal in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in Tokyo last September.
The two sprinters have met on the Diamond League stage twice in the last two years.
Jefferson-Wooden’s charge to the top of the world rankings last season began with a 100m victory over Alfred at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, her first ever Diamond League win.
Alfred took revenge in Rome earlier this season, beating her US rival in the 200m at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea.
Both have notched up 100m victories in the Diamond League this season, with Jefferson-Wooden winning in Stockholm and Eugene and Alfred clocking a windy 10.76 in Oslo.
Zurich is the 14th leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which began in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
