Diamond League champions Mondo Duplantis, Andy Diaz Hernandez, Leyanis Perez Hernandez and Simon Ehammer were among the gold medallists at the World Athletics Indoor Championships this weekend.
Just six weeks before the start of the 2026 Diamond League campaign, some of the biggest stars in global track and field were in action in Poland in a thrilling climax to the indoor season.
Duplantis claimed his fourth world indoor title in Torun, jumping a championship record of 6.25m to win gold in the pole vault.
Having already broken the world record once this year, he will be hoping to continue that form as he chases a sixth Diamond League title this summer.
The Swedish superstar has already signed up for six Diamond League meetings in 2026. He will open his campaign with appearances in Doha, Keqiao and Xiamen in May before heading to Stockholm, London and Silesia later in the season.
Diamond League triple jump champions Diaz Hernandez and Perez Hernandez also claimed gold for Italy and Cuba this weekend, while long jump series champion Ehammer emerged triumphant in the men’s heptathlon.
Perez Hernandez beat Venezuelan rival Yulimar Rojas to gold, setting up what promises to be a thrilling rivalry in the outdoor season.
While the Cuban will be hoping to equal Rojas’ tally of three Diamond League titles in 2026, world record holder Rojas will be out to reclaim the Diamond Trophy for the first time since 2023.
Several other reigning Diamond League champions won medals at the World Indoors in Kujawy Pomorze.
Julien Alfred won bronze in the women’s 60m, adding another global medal to her World Championships silver and Olympic gold.
The St. Lucia star is chasing a third successive 100m Diamond League title in 2026 and has already confirmed a hugely anticipated head-to-head with world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
Switzerland’s Audrey Werro claimed silver with a national record in the women’s 800m, while two-time Diamond League champion Keely Hodgkinson struck gold with a championship record of 1:55.30.
Larissa Iapichino and Nicola Olyslagers also won silver in the women’s long jump and women’s high jump respectively, with Olyslagers falling just two centimetres shot of three-time Diamond League champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League season begins in Doha on May 8 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
