Two years on from one of the most dramatic Olympic 400m finals in history, Matthew Hudson-Smith and Quincy Hall are set to lock horns again at the London leg of this year’s Wanda Diamond League.
Hall and Hudson-Smith won gold and silver respectively at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the American chasing down his British rival on the home straight to win by just 0.04 seconds.
The two men will go head to head again at the Novuna London Athletics Meet on July 18 in what is set to be their first meeting since the Olympics.
Hall raced sparingly last season but still notched up some impressive performances in the Diamond League, including a victory in Rome.
Hudson-Smith won the 400m in Eugene last year before finishing second behind fellow Brit Charles Dobson in London.
“There was a lot of madness last year,” said Hudson-Smith, who reached the semi-finals of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. “I had hamstring injuries and I was ill, then in the buildup to Tokyo I became a dad which was amazing, but obviously stressful too.
“Things have settled down now, my winter training has gone well and I have an exciting summer ahead. It would mean a lot to me to return to the London Stadium and deliver another strong performance for the fans that have always backed me.”
London is the 11th leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which begins in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
