Čeh and Alekna head up Silesia discus

European Championships gold and silver medallists Kristjan Čeh and Mykolas Alekna will headline the men's discus at the Silesia leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League on August 23.

Kristjan Čeh and Mykolas Alekna will continue their Wanda Diamond League campaigns in the men’s discus in Silesia on August 23 after both won medals at the European Championships in Birmingham.

Slovenia’s Čeh and Lithuania’s Alekna finished first and second in the men’s discus final at the Alexander Stadium on Thursday, with Čeh breaking Alekna’s previous championship record with 70.38m.

The two discus stars wil face off again in just over a week at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Silesia, where Alekna will be looking to join his rival in the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 4-5.

Čeh, who last won the Diamond League title in 2022, has already qualified for the series final after opening his campaign with a meeting record in Shanghai/Keqiao and following up with third and second place finishes in Stockholm and Eugene.

Alekna, who is the reigning Diamond League champion and current world record holder, opened his Diamond League campaign with victory in Eugene and is now just one more win away from a place in the final.

The two stars will also be joined in Poland by European Championships bronze medallist Henrik Janssen and reigning world champion Daniel Ståhl.

Silesia is the 13th leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which began in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.

The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
