Gout Gout to face Tebogo and Bednarek in Eugene

Gout Gout will take on Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo and the USA's Kenneth Bednarek in the men's 200m at the Prefontaine Classic Wanda Diamond League meeting in Eugene in July.

Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout is set to reach another career milestone when he takes on Letsile Tebogo and Kenneth Bednarek in the 200m at the Prefontaine Classic on July 4.

Gout will face Olympic champion Tebogo and two-time Diamond League champion Bednarek at the Eugene leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, in what will be one of his full appearances in athletics’ premier global series.

The 18-year-old made his first appearance at a Diamond League meeting in Monaco last season, when he won the U23 200m race at the Stade Louis II.

“I’m feeling very excited to start racing everyone out at the big meets,” he said after that win.

In Eugene, he will go up against the very best in the world in Tebogo and Bednarek.

Tebogo is the reigning Olympic champion over 200m and has notched up eight Diamond League victories in the past two seasons.

The Botswana star will be chasing his first ever Diamond League title in 2026, having narrowly missed out in both 2024 and 2025.

It was Bednarek who beat him in 2024, clocking an impressive 19.67 to shock Tebogo at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels.

That win sealed a second career Diamond Trophy for the American, who also won silver at each of the last two Olympic Games and World Championships.

Eugene is the ninth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which begins in Doha on May 8 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.

The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
