US sprint superstar Noah Lyles will race the men’s 100m at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea on June 4, as he bids for a record seventh Diamond League title this year.
Olympic champion in the 100m and world champion in the 200m, Lyles is hoping to make Diamond League history in 2026.
The American is already the most successful track athlete in the series’ history, having won his sixth Diamond Trophy in the 200m last season.
Another title this year would see him equal the overall record of seven titles held by French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie and US triple jumper Christian Taylor.
Lyles’ last appearance in Rome came in 2019, when he suffered a narrow defeat to compatriot Michael Norman in the 200m.
“One of my favourite races ever was in Rome against Michael Norman. I’m hoping this time brings another one like that”, he said.
Rome is the fifth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which begins in Doha on May 8 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
