The reigning Olympic, world and Diamond League champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi will headline a star-studded men’s 800m field at the Stockholm leg of athletics’ premier one-day series on June 7.
Wanyonyi will take on Olympic silver and bronze medallists Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati and teenage world indoor champion Cooper Lutkenhaus at BAUHAUS-Galan.
It will be the first of two heavyweight 800m clashes in quick succession, with the same names set to meet at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo three days later.
Wanyonyi set a world lead in Stockholm last season, one of five wins he picked up en route to a third successive Diamond League title in 2025.
The Kenyan has dominated the 800m in recent years, notching up 12 Diamond League wins in what is currently one of the sport’s most competitive disciplines.
Yet he is not unbeatable, having suffered shock Diamond League defeats in both Rabat and Lausanne last year.
As well as Olympic medallists Arop and Sedjati, he also faces former world 1500m champion Jake Wightman and Australian star Peter Bol.
Stockholm is the fifth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which begins in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.
The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
