Some of Switzerland’s biggest athletics stars will be in action on home soil later this year at the Lausanne leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League.
Last week, the Athletissima meeting confirmed Diamond League champions Simon Ehammer and Audrey Werro and world champion Ditaji Kambundji would join an increasingly star-studded line-up at the Stade de la Pontaise on August 21.
They will be hoping for better weather than last year, when Lausanne was hit by torrential rain on the night of the meeting.
In the latest episode of our 2025 Revisited series, we take a look back at an unforgettable night on which the likes of Oblique Seville, Keely Hodgkinson and Josh Hoey defied conditions to claim famous victories.
Seville’s battle with Noah Lyles in the men’s 100m was the most eagerly anticipated race of the night, coming just a month after the Jamaican had beaten his American rival in London.
He made it two wins in two in Lausanne, streaking through the rain to clock 9.87 and finish several strides ahead of Lyles in a win portentous of his World Championships gold medal a few weeks later.
British middle-distance star Hodgkinson also continued her stunning comeback from injury, clocking a meeting record of 1:55.69 in the women’s 800m.
That win came just days after she had set a new world lead of 1:54.74 in Silesia in her first Diamond League appearance after a year out injured.
Other standout performances included a surprise win for the USA’s Josh Hoey over Olympic and Diamond League champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi in the men’s 800m.
