Olyslagers joins Mahuchikh in Silesia high jump

The two best female high jumpers in the world will lock horns at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia later this month.

World champion Nicola Olyslagers and world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh will write the next chapter of their epic rivalry in the women’s high jump at the Silesia leg of the Wanda Diamond League on August 23.

Australia’s Olyslagers will join Mahuchikh on a star-studded line-up of global stars at the Polish meeting, which already boasts the likes of Ja’Kobe Tharp, Julien Alfred, Shericka Jackson and Mondo Duplantis.

Australia’s Olyslagers and Ukraine’s Mahuchikh have dominated the women’s high jump in recent years, sharing almost all major international titles between them in one of the sport’s most enthralling rivalries.

Mahuchikh is the reigning Olympic champion and world record holder, was crowned world champion in 2023 and held the Diamond League title for three years in a row from 2022 to 2024.

Her dominance was finally broken last year, when Olyslagers beat her to both the Diamond League and world titles in the space of a few weeks.

The Australian set a new Oceania record of 2.04m to win the Diamond Trophy in Zurich last September before claiming gold at the World Championships in Tokyo.

The rivalry has continued this season, with little to separate the two leading stars of the women’s high jump.

Mahuchikh beat Olyslagers to the world indoor title in Poland in March, before Olyslagers won their first Diamond League battle of 2026 in London last month.

Silesia is the 13th leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which began in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and ends at the two-day series final in Brussels on September 4-5.

The series unites the biggest names in track and field in some of the world’s most iconic arenas, crossing four continents and 15 cities over the course of the season.
