The Wanda Diamond League continues in Oslo this Wednesday, with Karsten Warholm, Gout Gout and Julien Alfred among those in action.
Here are five things to look out for at the Bislett Games.
Gout makes senior debut
It is almost a year since Gout Gout took his first steps onto the Diamond League stage, winning the U23 men’s 200m in Monaco last season. The Australian returns to make his first senior appearance in the Diamond League in Oslo this week, taking on the likes of Letsile Tebogo and Jereem Richards in the men’s 200m. He is already in excellent form this year, having run 19.67 at the national championships in Sydney in April.
Warholm vs Dos Santos
Wednesday’s headline event comes in the men’s 400m hurdles, where home favourite Karsten Warholm takes on Brazilian rival Alison Dos Santos for the third time this season. As world record holder and Diamond League champion, Warholm will always fancy his chances, especially on home turf at the Bislett Stadium. Yet it is Dos Santos who has had the better of the rivalry so far this season, beating Warholm in Keqiao and Xiamen before notching up a further win in Stockholm on Sunday.
Yan returns to action
Chinese teenager Yan Ziyi was reduced to tears last month after she threw a staggering 71.74m on home soil in Xiamen to move to second in the all-time list in the women’s javelin. Three weeks later, she is back in Diamond League action, making her first appearance in Europe. Another 71-metre throw may be too much to ask for, but another win would surely cement her status as the de facto number one in the javelin.
Pérez-Hernández launches title defence
Cuba’s Leyanis Pérez-Hernández has dominated the women’s triple jump in recent years, claiming the Diamond League title in 2024 and 2025 and picking up three world championship gold medals (two indoor, one outdoor) in the same time period. The 24-year-old makes her first Diamond League appearance of the year in Oslo, kickstarting her bid to win a third successive Diamond Trophy in 2026.
Lutkenhaus faces Wanyonyi
Cooper Lutkenhaus was one of the standout performers in Stockholm last Sunday, the American teenager showing maturity beyond his years to beat a formidable field on his Diamond League debut in the 800m. He faces an even tougher test in Oslo, however, as Kenya’s Olympic, world and Diamond League champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi returns to action after missing Stockholm due to the birth of his child.
